While waiting fast approaching launch of Samsung Gear VR, Czech website named Samsung Mania has already released software and sequence of video tutorials for user interface of this device.
So far there are 3 videos published and probably more to come. Videos could not be proud of quality, probably, as it’s said in the video, because of the way it is captured. To be specific, the presenter of the video used the Gear VR and reflected image by screen mirroring to his Samsung Smart TV. The footage is filmed by camera pointed at the TV.
The narrator has been speaking in Czech and the speech is followed by subtitles. In one of the videos it’s mentioned that the device arrived lately to this publication’s office, and it is, most likely, a review copy that they get from Samsung.
Video Tutorials for Gear VR
First footage is made to present Oculus Home, which is a kind of 3D main menu of Gear VR where it’s possible to overview, install and handle your apps, videos, pictures etc. All the content shown in videos is probably delivered along the VR kit, since Oculus Store is not in the use yet.
This main hub area is not overcrowded and has icons to enter Store (which includes Oculus Logo) and Samsung Gear VR to open online Samsung’s content gateway. There are also entrance buttons for ‘Oculus 360 Videos’, ‘Oculus Cinema’, ‘Oculus 360 Photos’ and ‘Library. For apps that are recently added there are also preview icons available.
One of the most interesting sections is Oculus Cinema which also has its own user interface and menu to pick a movie, a polished one. At this app multiple movie projection is available. Gear VR settings display allows you to get pass-through camera and transform usual phone functions, and also change orientation of the device.
These videos have also explained all about the 360 Photos and Videos applications. According to videos, it looks like the show off content is carefully selected to demonstrate all the advantages of this unit. The first 360 Video that you can see is Galaxy VR 11 and there you can enjoy a trip into the future including space touring and watching intergalactic football play. Galaxy VR 11 is some kind of a trailer announcing forthcoming game. Another content displayed in this app is amazing trailer for historical documentary about Iceland. It’s not easy to tell if this is 3D or 360 degree format.
As it’s announced at Samsung, the Gear VR should be released these days.
